The April 2, 2024 election is a little over over 90 days away. Certainly there are many people who already know me, there is a lot of information available online with a simple Google Search, my LinkedIn profile is kept up-to-date, and my voting record is available to anyone who wants to look. But the truth remains - one of the best ways to really get to know someone is to sit down and have an actual conversation.
My initial thought was to schedule a handful of events where people could just drop in. I may still hold some of those events - dates/times/locations TBD. Of course the biggest problem with any drop-in event is actually having people show up. If I were handing out hundred dollar bills, I'm confident that a lot of people would show up. But lets be honest - talking local politics doesn't have the same draw as cash. And I hope the moral and legal problems with handing out cash to voters while running for office are pretty obvious! So I'm going to try something a little different. I'm opening up a scheduling page where anyone, with just a few clicks, can grab dedicated time on my calendar:
https://calendar.app.google/vt66mKs8JTJdHhBX7
This link has been added to the right side of my campaign web site, and will appear on my campaign email signatures. I'm happy to use the scheduled time for a phone or video call, to meet at M-N-M's Coffeehouse, or to grab a beer at The Lone Girl (disclaimer - I don't drink, but I don't mind if you do). Of course, I'm open to other suggestions as well - those are just a couple of ideas. And this can be 1-on-1 or to meet with a whole group.
And you're certainly welcome to email, or give me a call whenever it works for you. But depending on the other committments already on my calendar, there's a good chance your call will end up in voicemail, and we'll play phone tag for a while. Instead, using this calendar link reserves the time for YOU!
We'll see how this works. Just like a lot of the things the board considers, it probably won't be perfect from the start. But it's one more way to make sure I'm available for anyone who wants to engage. And I'll tweak it as needed.
